More about WUSC’s Student Refugee Program

The Student Refugee Program (SRP), managed by the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), is a resettlement program that provides opportunities for refugees to continue their post-secondary studies in Canada. Refugees sponsored through the program become Permanent Residents when they arrive in Canada. WUSC facilitates access to a post-secondary academic institution in Canada for selected students. There is a wide range of academic programs available for study. Students may be placed at a university, college or CEGEP (college in the province of Quebec). WUSC makes the decision about where students will study.

Please note that the SRP is NOT a scholarship program – it is a one-year sponsorship program under Canada’s Private Sponsorship Program. SRP students are sponsored by groups of students studying on campuses across Canada (called WUSC ‘Local Committees’). SRP students do not receive cash to study. Financial assistance is provided "in kind" for one year to cover tuition fees, food and accommodation, in addition to a small allowance to cover the costs of basic necessities. After the first year, students are required to apply for grants, scholarships, or student loans that all Canadians and Permanent Residents have access to in order to finance the remainder of their studies.
